Origin
The Acer palmatum also known as the Japanese maple, has its origin in East Asia, specifically in Japan. Here, the plant grows in forests and on mountain slopes, frequently contributing to the colourful autumn landscape. Since the plant performs remarkably well in Japanese gardens, bursting with brilliant colours in the autumn, it has been exported to many other parts of the world.

Characteristics
The Acer palmatum distinguishes itself by its striking physical characteristics. It is a medium-sized shrub or small tree, able to reach a height of up to 4 metres. Particularly notable is its beautiful, deeply incised foliage which noticebale for it's vibrant colour throughout the spring and summer. The leaves are palmate, with seven to eleven lobes and reach a length of 5 to 12 cm. Additionally, the plant has hanging branches

Care
In terms of care, Acer prefer a semi-shade spot, but it can also be in full sun if enough moisture is available. Watering should take place regularly during dry periods. Pruning is not necessary for this species, but if it is needed, it should take place during late winter to avoid infections.
