Origin
The Calathea rufibarba originates from South America, where the species grows in tropical rainforests. Due to the high humidity in this region, the plant can grow and develop smoothly. The plant is also referred to as the 'prayer plant' because of the movement of its leaves, which open and close depending on the time of day.

Characteristics
Characteristic of the Calathea rufibarba are the velvety, wavy leaves which are dark green on the top and red to purplish on the underside. This plant has gracefully hanging, oval leaves that can grow up to 45 cm long. With its vibrant colours and unique texture, this plant makes for an attractive addition to any indoor space.

Care
In terms of care, the Calathea rufibarba 'Blue grass' doesn't require direct sunlight, but performs well under partial shade or at indirect light. The plant needs regular watering, but can't tolerate waterlogging. It's also important to protect the plant from cold draughts, as this may damage the leaves.
