Quimilo Cactus

Origin
The Opuntia Quimilo is a type of cactus that originates from the dry areas of Argentina. This plant has over the years adapted to the extreme conditions of its original habitat. The locations where this cactus is found in the wild often include both low valleys and mountainous regions.

Characteristics
Characteristic of the Opuntia Quimilo are its wide, flat, leaf-shaped stem segments that are covered with small, sharp spines. This plant can grow up to 4 metres high. The flowers of the Opuntia Quimilo are strikingly red in colour. Additionally, the plant develops edible fruits after flowering that are red in colour and often used in the local cuisine of its original habitat.

Care
In terms of care, the Opuntia Quimilo requires a sunny location. In the summer, the plant can be placed outside, but during the winter months, it should be kept indoors to protect from frost. Watering must be moderate and only done when the soil is completely dry. Due to its origin, the plant is resistant to drought, and can survive under minimum water conditions.
