Planting System
This plant display is made up with a pot plant, filled with Vulkastrat and is equipped with a waterlevel indicator. Vulkastrat absorbs more water than regular soil and releases it gradually to the roots. Vulkastrat cannot shrink shut due to its coarse structure, which keeps the soil more airy and allows the roots to absorb enough oxygen.

Origin
The Opuntia consolea is a type of cactus that originates from the Caribbean area, particularly Haiti and the Dominican Republic. In these regions, the plant grows on rocky soil under dry and sunny conditions. It is commonly found on calcium-rich soils.

Characteristics
The Opuntia consolea, also known as Consolea Falcata, can grow up to three meters high and is characterised by the luxuriant growth of long, flattened branches that resemble the shape of a candelabra. The plant has a dark green colour and irregularly blooms with yellow to orange flowers. The disc-shaped branches are covered with small, inconspicuous thorns.

Care
Low maintenance, caring for an Opuntia primarily involves the need for plenty of sunlight. This plant tolerates high temperatures and low humidity, typical of its natural habitat. Watering is limited to the summer months, when once a week is sufficient. During the winter months, the plant enjoys a drier period and only requires sporadic watering.
