Origin
The Alocasia 'Portodora', also known as the elephant ear, has its origin in the tropical regions of Southeast Asia. The plant belongs to the Araceae family. It is especially in the rainforests of Borneo, an island in this region, where this plant grows abundantly.

Characteristics
The Alocasia 'Portodora' is known for its large, heart-shaped leaves with strong veins. The leaves are glossy green and can grow up to 1 metre long. The plant may produce small, inconspicuous flowers in the summer. In general, the 'Portodora' can grow up to a height of 2 metres, making it an imposing indoor plant.

Care
>Alocasia typically demand minimal care. The plant prefers a warm and humid environment, similar to its tropical origin. Indirect sunlight is most suitable for the Alocasia, to prevent burning of the leaves. It is important to keep the soil moist, although overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot. Regular misting with water can help maintain humidity. The plant can be fed with a general houseplant fertiliser during the growing seasons.
