Origin
The Calathea orbifolia is a plant species originally from South America. The plant can mainly be found in warm tropical rainforests of countries such as Brazil, Peru, and Colombia. This unique plant species takes its name from the Greek word 'kalathos', meaning 'basket'.

Characteristics
A distinct characteristic of the Calathea orbifolia is its large, round leaves with notable silver stripes, giving it the nickname 'Round Leaf Calathea'. The plant's leaves grow out in a fan shape, allowing the plant to spread out wide. The Calathea orbifolia can grow up to a meter in height. It is known that the leaves close at night and open during the day.

Care
An easy going houseplant, Calathea thrive in warm, humid environments with indirect sunlight. Water regularly, but avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot. During the growing seasons of Spring and Summer, fertilise the plant monthly to support healthy growth. Given its high preference for humidity, regularly misting the plant is recommended to maintain optimal conditions.
